Born in Milan on July 3, 1935, he began his career as a midfielder with A.C. Milan in 1955 and made his top-flight debut in his first season with the club.

He went on to win the Serie A title and the Latin Cup with Milan in the 1956-57 campaign before becoming best known for his coaching work at Hellas Verona. There, he led the club to its first and only Serie A championship in the 1984-85 season.
