Born Oliver Theophilus Jones in Montreal on September 11, 1934, he built a long career as a pianist, organist, composer and arranger. Raised in Little Burgundy, he began playing the piano at age five and went on to study first with Mme Bonner at Union United Church and later with Daisy Peterson Sweeney, Oscar Peterson’s sister.

Jones was also recognized for his work in education, including posts at McGill University and Laurentian University.
