Nicholas Snowman, chairman of the jewellers Wartski and a British arts administrator, died on March 2, 2023, aged 78.

Born in London on 18 March 1944, he was the son of Kenneth Snowman, and he was educated at Highgate School and Magdalene College, Cambridge. Snowman helped found the London Sinfonietta and served as its general manager from 1968 to 1972.

He later co-founded the Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris in 1976 with the composer and conductor Pierre Boulez and the French culture minister Michel Guy. He was also known as Michael Nicholas Snowman and was appointed OBE.
