Nelson Martínez Rust, the Venezuelan Roman Catholic prelate who served as auxiliary bishop of Valencia in Venezuela from 1982 to 1992 and bishop of San Felipe from 1992 to 2016, died on May 3, 2026.

He was 81. Born in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, Venezuela, on June 10, 1944, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Valencia in 1968.

He studied at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Caracas and later at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he specialized in Sacred Scripture. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of Valencia by Pope John Paul II in 1982 and received his episcopal consecration later that year.
