
Mate Meštrović, a Croatian–American journalist, died on December 30, 2025, in Zagreb at the age of 95.
Also known as Matthew Mestrovic and Matthew Meštrović, he was born in Zagreb on September 13, 1930. The son of Croatian–American sculptor Ivan Meštrović, he attended grade school in Zagreb before his family moved to Italy in 1942.
He later studied in Switzerland and the United States, earning a PhD from Columbia University in 1957. Meštrović worked as a contributing editor of TIME and wrote for American and European newspapers and magazines. He also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army PsyWar in the Pacific from 1954 to 1956 and was a Korean War veteran.
