Born Maria Dimitropoulou in Pyrgos in 1935, she later moved with her family to Athens and began performing as a child in cabaret shows, adopting the stage name Mary Linda. She came to be known for work in the laïko and éntekhno traditions, and her first professional recording was a 1953 version of Kostas Kapnisis’ “Bitter Glass.” She was also associated with the film “Polytehnitis kai erimospitis” and was married to singer Manolis Chiotis.
