Lowe played quarterback in the Arena Football League, appearing for the St. Louis Stampede and Texas Terror, and later served as head coach of the Georgia Force.

He played college football at Louisville, where he was part of the Cardinals program from 1991 to 1995. Lowe also played high school football at Red Bank High School in Red Bank, Tennessee, and was named Mr. Football in Tennessee as a senior in 1990.
