Margareta Waterman dead at age 93, American poet and publisher

Margareta Waterman, an American poet and publisher, died on May 9, 2026, at age 93.

Born in Boston on December 8, 1932, and raised in New York City, she attended New York public schools before studying at Connecticut College, Hunter College and Williams College. In 1987, she founded the small press nine muses books in Seattle, Washington, and went on to publish more than 70 books and chapbooks by poets, improvisational musicians and other writers from the Pacific Northwest.

She was also affiliated with the Seattle Muse Community, served on the board of the Red Sky Poetry Theatre from 1989 to 1994, and founded the poetry and performance art video series manifest arts.
