Marcelo Moren Brito, a Chilean agent of the Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional, died on September 11, 2015, at the age of 80.
Born Marcelo Luis Manuel Moren Brito on July 27, 1935, in Temuco, he served as a retired Army colonel and later became a senior figure in DINA, the secret police of the Pinochet era. He was chief of operations at the agency and headed its Villa Grimaldi detention center in Peñalolén, where political prisoners were interrogated and tortured.
Moren Brito was also linked to the 1973 Caravan of Death, a military operation in which detainees were executed. He was later convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to more than 300 years in prison, serving his sentence at Punta Peuco Prison in Santiago.
