Lieke Marsman, a Dutch poet and writer, died on June 3, 2026, at the age of 35.
Born in Den Bosch in 1990, she grew up in Zaltbommel and later studied philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. Marsman became one of the leading Dutch literary voices of her generation, serving as Dutch Poet Laureate from 2021 to 2023.
Her debut collection, Wat ik mijzelf graag voorhoud, appeared in 2010 and went on to win three literary prizes the following year; more than 3,000 copies were sold. She also worked on the literary journal Tirade and published a second collection, De eerste letter, in 2014.
