Les Latcham, an English footballer who played as a defender for Burnley, Plymouth Argyle and Bradford City, died on October 9, 2026, aged 83.
Born Leslie Arnold Latcham in Crook on December 22, 1942, he played professional football for those three clubs, making 178 appearances for Burnley. His away debut came against Manchester United at Old Trafford in February 1965.
A week later, his second game was also at Old Trafford, where Burnley again faced Manchester United, this time in the FA Cup. The two matches placed his first away appearance and his second game in a distinctive sequence: consecutive weeks, the same ground and the same opposition. Latcham also played for Burnley in the 1966–67 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, a campaign in which the club reached the quarter-finals. His record therefore includes both a substantial number of appearances for Burnley and participation in the club’s run in that competition, alongside his playing associations with Plymouth Argyle and Bradford City. As a defender, he represented the three clubs named in accounts of his career, with the Old Trafford matches and European cup campaign among the specific milestones recorded.
