Len Brown, an American comic book writer and creator of Mars Attacks, died on August 11, 2026, aged 84.

Born in Brooklyn on October 7, 1941, he also worked as a writer, editor, radio personality and comic book scripter. Brown joined the Product Development Department of Topps Chewing Gum after high school and spent 41 years there, helping shape sports and non-sports cards as a creative editor alongside department head Woody Gelman.

In 1962, he pitched the idea that became Mars Attacks, later developed with Gelman into a Martian-invasion card series that was illustrated by Wally Wood in rough sketches, penciled by Bob Powell and painted by Norman Saunders. Brown was also known as the co-creator of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents.
