He was 100. Born in Copenhagen in December 1925, Ard became known for cover art for newspapers and magazines across several decades, especially for the Scandinavian titles Allers and Familie Journal and the German magazine Hörzu.
After his family emigrated to California in 1950, he began working in New York on smaller magazines before returning to Denmark in 1953. He also worked for publications including the Saturday Evening Post, Reader’s Digest and McCall’s, and his realistic style drew comparisons with Norman Rockwell. Under the name Kurt Ard, adopted from his surname’s resemblance to “art,” he completed 260 cover images for Hörzu.
