Kevin Keegan, the English football player and manager who became one of the most admired figures in the game, died on July 20, 2026.
Born Joseph Kevin Keegan in Armthorpe on February 14, 1951, he made his name as a forward of rare movement and aerial presence, first at Scunthorpe United and then after Bill Shankly brought him to Liverpool. At Anfield he won three First Division titles, two UEFA Cups, the FA Cup and, in his final season, the European Cup, while also earning 31 caps as England captain, including at UEFA Euro 1980.
He later played for Hamburger SV before moving into management, where he led Newcastle United to the First Division title and promotion to the Premier League, and later took charge of Fulham and the England national team.
