Julio Le Parc dead at age 97, Argentine-French artist

Julio Le Parc, the ArgentineFrench artist whose experiments in painting, sculpture and visual art helped shape modern kinetic and op art, died on May 30, 2026.

He was 97. Born in Mendoza on September 23, 1928, Le Parc studied at the School of Fine Arts in Argentina before building a career that began in 1957 and extended across Argentina and France.

A founding member of the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel, he gained international recognition after winning the Grand Prize for Painting at the 33rd Venice Biennale in 1966. He later received major honors including Argentina’s Konex Award, the diamond Konex award and France’s Knight of the Legion of Honour.
