Jozien Bensing, a Dutch clinical psychologist and university teacher, died on June 1, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born Josina Maria Bensing on March 12, 1950, in Tilburg, she studied clinical psychology at Utrecht University and later earned a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1991 with research on doctor-patient communication and the quality of care. Bensing led the Dutch Institute for General Practice and later the Nederlands Instituut voor Onderzoek van de Gezondheidszorg, serving as director from 1985 to 2008.
She was also appointed professor of clinical and healthcare psychology at Utrecht University in 1993. Her work was recognized with the 2006 Spinoza Prize and the title Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
