Pawlikowski, an American Servite priest and professor emeritus of social ethics at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, died on June 26, 2026. He was 85.
A member of the Servite order, Pawlikowski directed the school’s Catholic-Jewish Studies Program in the Bernardin Center for Theology and Ministry and was long associated with CTU, where he had been on the faculty since 1968. Born in Chicago on Nov. 2, 1940, the son of Thaddeus John and Anna Mary Pawlikowski, he entered the Order of the Servants of Mary in 1958 after high school and later studied at Loyola University Chicago, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1963. President Jimmy Carter appointed him to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in 1980, and he was later reappointed by Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
