John Swan, the Bermudian politician who served as Bermuda’s fourth premier, died on June 4, 2026, at age 90.
Also known as Sir John William David Swan, he was born in Bermuda on July 3, 1935, and built his reputation as a real estate developer before entering politics. Elected to Parliament in 1972, he went on to serve as premier from 1982 to 1995.
During his time in office, Swan was associated with Bermuda’s growth as an offshore financial center and with the completion of more than 20 major government projects.
