John Sanders, an American sports broadcaster who spent more than 25 years calling Major League Baseball games, died June 10, 2026, at age 83.
A Kansas native, Sanders worked at WIBW-TV in Topeka before moving to KMBC-TV in Kansas City, where he spent 12 years and handled preseason play-by-play for Kansas City Chiefs telecasts. He joined KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh in 1978 as weekend sports anchor, later becoming sports director, and in 1981 he began a nine-season run on the Pittsburgh Pirates broadcast team alongside Lanny Frattare.
Sanders also spent 16 years as a television announcer for the Cleveland Indians and continued to call Big East football and basketball games into the mid-2010s.
