John Carro, an American judge who served on the New York Supreme Court and later in its Appellate Division, died on July 26, 2026, at age 98.

Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, on August 21, 1927, he built a long legal career that included 25 years on the bench, with the last 15 spent as an associate justice in the Appellate Division. After retiring in 1994, Carro co-founded the New York City law firm Carro, Velez, Carro & Mitchell, now known as Carro, Carro & Mitchell.

He was also known for his advocacy on behalf of the Hispanic and Latino American community and for his work with bar groups, committees and legal and educational organizations.
