Joanna Rawik, the Polish singer, actress, and journalist, died on August 15, 2026, aged 92.
Born Joanna Szamota in Chernivtsi on January 31, 1934, she later used the names Gronkowska and Petrusewicz through marriage. She began learning the violin as a child, worked as a typist at Ossolineum in Wrocław, and initially aspired to journalism before making her singing debut in the mid-1950s at the journalists’ cabaret Kaczka.
Rawik also studied at the Irena Byrska and Tadeusz Byrski Theatre Studio in Kielce and performed with theater companies in Łódź and Lublin. Over the course of her career, she combined stage work with singing and journalism, and was recognized with Poland’s Zasłużony Działacz Kultury and the Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
