Born in Toulouse on December 23, 1945, he trained at the École des chartes and earned the title of archivist-paleographer in 1970 with a thesis on the toponymic vocabulary of Campan. That same year, he became director of the Ariège departmental archives, a post he held until 1976, before taking charge of the Hautes-Pyrénées archives from 1976 to 2005.
His published work included studies on the Hautes-Pyrénées and local history, among them Dictionnaire toponymique des communes des Hautes-Pyrénées and Les conseillers généraux des Hautes-Pyrénées, 1800-2007.
