Born in San Gabriel, he became one of Ecuador’s notable literary voices and worked as a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. His books included “Universidad – Sentido y crítica,” “Jacarandas” and “Filosofía hoy,” and he was recognized in 1984 with the Aurelio Espinosa Pólit Award for “Parajes.” In 2013, he also received the Premio a las Libertades Juan Montalvo.
Carvajal lived in Quito and served as director of País Secreto magazine and project director of Corporación Cultural Orogenia.
