Born in Conakry on March 13, 1941, he was also a Guinean diplomat. From 1964 to 1970, Sow studied philosophy and German at Karl Marx University of Leipzig, undertaking university work in both disciplines during the same six-year period.
He earned a doctorate in philosophy in 1973 and another, in German, in 1976, completing doctoral work in the two subjects he had studied in Leipzig. In 1977, he became a lecturer at the University of Leipzig, where he taught history and political development. His university appointment followed his studies and doctoral degrees there. Sow’s parliamentary service in Ghana ran from 1995 to 2002, a political role alongside his work as a diplomat and politician from Guinea.
