Born on July 1, 1951, Martin was graded with Manly as a 16-year-old in 1967 and went on to play nine seasons of first-grade football for the club between 1969 and 1974, and again from 1976 to 1978. He holds the rare distinction of appearing in six grand finals for Manly, winning four of them, with his first coming in the 1970 defeat by South Sydney.

Martin later featured in the club’s victorious teams in 1972, 1973, 1976 and the 1978 draw and replay.
