Horacio Muratore, the Argentine basketball executive who served as president of the International Basketball Federation from 2014 to 2019, died on July 25, 2026.
He was 74. Born in San Miguel de Tucumán on November 29, 1951, Muratore began his basketball career at Tucumán BB, the club where his father worked, and later returned to become its president in 1983.
He held that post until 1992, when he was elected president of the Argentine Basketball Confederation. His leadership there coincided with the emergence of Argentina’s Golden Generation, and he later served as president of FIBA Americas in 2009 before becoming vice president of FIBA the following year. In 2014, he was elected president of FIBA, the first Argentine to hold the office.
