Greg Sewell, the Australian rules footballer who served Essendon as an assistant coach and president, died on July 22, 2026, aged 93.
Gregory George Sewell was born on June 30, 1933, and grew up in Melbourne, where he attended University High School from 1950 to 1951 and was a schoolmate of Allen Aylett. Recruited from the Monash Rovers, he began his Essendon career in the club’s Thirds and Seconds before making his senior debut against Footscray at Windy Hill on July 19, 1952.
Over the years, he became a long-serving figure at the club and was later inducted as an Essendon legend for a contribution that spanned more than four decades.
