Giuseppe Schifilliti, an Italian–American mobster and prominent member of New Jersey’s DeCavalcante crime family, died October 10, 2026, aged 88.
Known as Pino, he was born in Tripoli, Italian Libya, to Antonio and Marianna Schifilliti and raised in Sicily. At 18, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey, by the late 1950s.
Schifilliti entered the DeCavalcante family in the mid-1970s, when he was inducted under boss Simone “Sam the Plumber” DeCavalcante and early underboss Giovanni “John the Eagle” Riggi. He began as a soldier and became a prominent family member from the 1980s onward. His criminal activity included labor racketeering and extortion, particularly through work connected to Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 1030. He extorted and bribed union officials in efforts to advance the family’s influence. This labor-related activity was one of the defining features of his role in the DeCavalcante organization. Schifilliti died in Toms River, New Jersey.
