Gilbert Kanyankore, a Rwandan football manager, died on July 25, 2026, at the age of 72.
Born in 1954 in Butare, Rwanda, he fled to Burundi with his family as a child and later attended St Albert Secondary School before studying physical education at the Université Pédagogique Nationale. Kanyankore went on to play for Burundian club Vital’O during the 1970s and 1980s, and his coaching career included appointments with the Rwanda B national team, AS Kigali, Rayon Sports and the Rwanda national side.
In 1999, he led Rwanda B to the CECAFA Cup title, and two years later helped AS Kigali win the 2001 Rwandan Cup.
