Born Eugenio Martín Márquez in Granada in 1925, he studied at the University of Granada and later built a career making Spanish productions that often worked with international casts and crews. Among his best-known films were Bad Man’s River, The Bounty Killer and Horror Express, the latter noted for pairing Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.
Although his work was not a major box-office or critical success at the time, Horror Express went on to develop a cult following and was later included by Fangoria in its list of 101 Best Horror Movies You’ve Never Seen.
