Eugene Stockton, an Australian priest, died on August 5, 2026, aged 91.
He was also an archaeologist, scholar, Aboriginal chaplain, teacher and educator who spent many years in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales. Known as the “Indiana Jones” of the Catholic priesthood, he survived war zones, made archaeological discoveries, worked across 14 languages and helped establish the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry.
Stockton also completed two doctorates during his work as a seminary lecturer.
