Eugene Hughes (Gaelic footballer) Irish Gaelic footballer, cancer dead at age 67

Eugene “Nudie” Hughes, an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Monaghan county team, died on November 3, 2025, aged 67.

Born in County Monaghan in 1957 or 1958, Hughes helped Monaghan win the 1985 National Football League Final against Armagh and won Ulster Senior Football Championship medals in 1979, 1985 and 1988. He was the first Monaghan man to receive an All-Star Award and was named on All-Star teams in 1979, 1985 and 1988.

He was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer in December 2018.
