Born in Belgium on March 5, 1945, he made 32 appearances for the Belgium national team between 1970 and 1977, making his debut in a 2-1 friendly defeat to France on November 15, 1970. He moved to Anderlecht in 1974 and won the UEFA Super Cup with the club two years later after a 4-1 second-leg victory over Bayern Munich.
After his playing career, Vandendaele founded a tennis club in Asper and later worked as a talent scout for Gent from 2005.
