Born Edward John Ivo Stourton in Lagos on November 24, 1957, he began his career in 1979 and became a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4, later joining The World at One and The World This Weekend. He was also a founder member of Channel 4 News, served as a BBC Paris correspondent and presented the BBC One O’Clock News.
