Edith Barr, the Peruvian Creole singer known as the Flor Morena de la Canción Criolla, died on September 1, 2026, aged 90.

Born Nora Edith Barr García in Lima on June 1, 1936, she built a career that stretched across more than five decades and became closely associated with Peruvian Creole music. She began performing as a teenager, recorded for the first time at 17, and later appeared on television in Peru, including on her best-known program, La revista de Edith, where she promoted Creole music.

Barr also performed in Latin America and the United States, sang at New York’s Waldorf Astoria at 16, and was among the artists who performed for Pope John Paul II during his 1985 visit to Peru. In 2000, she received the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services for her contribution to Peruvian music.
