Born David Charles Marsden in Toronto and raised in Stratford, Ontario, he first went on the air as Dave Mickie, drawing attention in the 1960s for his rapid-fire style. He later returned to his birth name and moved toward a freer, less tightly scripted approach, working at CHOM-FM in Montreal and CHUM-FM in Toronto before becoming program director at CFNY-FM in Brampton in 1979.
Marsden remained with CFNY until 1988.
