D. Wickramaratne, a Sri Lankan police officer who served as the 35th Inspector General of Police, died on July 17, 2026, at the age of 63.
Born Chandana Deepal Wickramaratne on March 26, 1963, he led the Sri Lanka Police from November 26, 2020, to November 25, 2023. He joined the force on June 16, 1986, beginning as an intelligence officer with the rank of assistant superintendent of police after graduating from the University of Colombo with a degree in physical sciences. Wickramaratne also studied at Ananda College in Colombo and later completed postgraduate training in defense studies in management at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, a postgraduate diploma in conflict resolution and security studies at the University of Bradford, and a PDIA course at Harvard University.
