Among his comics was Boogy et Rana, which earned him the Angoulême International Comics Festival’s Prix Jeunesse in the 7–8 age category. The distinction connected Tarvel’s work with the festival’s recognition of comics for young readers. Tarvel’s professional name differed from his birth name, Jean Pol Laselle, while his work and award were associated with the name by which readers knew him. He was born and spent much of his publishing career in France, with Reims recorded as his birthplace.
