Born in 1952 in Staré Sedlo in the Sokolov area, he later trained as a machine repairer in agriculture and worked for the Czechoslovak State Security from 1973. After a serious injury in 1974 kept him from working for nearly a year, he was assigned to the passport and visa department.
He left the police after failing to repay several loans and was later convicted of four murders, receiving a life sentence.
