Born Barbara Sela Queen in 1942, she was known professionally as Bobbi Queen. She studied at the Tobé-Coburn School for Fashion Careers in Manhattan after spending a year at Boston University, and began her career as a buyer at Gimbels before joining Women’s Wear under publisher John Fairchild in the 1970s.
Over the course of her work there, she chronicled changes in women’s dress as more women entered the workforce and second-wave feminism reshaped fashion.
