
Bernardin Mfumbusa, a Tanzanian Roman Catholic prelate and bishop of Kondoa since 2011, died on April 14, 2026, at the age of 64.
Born on April 1, 1962, in Arusha, then Tanganyika, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Dodoma on June 14, 1992, after studying at Peramiho Major Seminary. He later earned a doctorate in social sciences, specializing in journalism, from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
Mfumbusa served as the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kondoa from its establishment in 2011 until his death in Dodoma, Tanzania. He also served as president of the Pan-African Episcopal Committee for Social Communications and held academic and administrative posts at St. Augustine University of Tanzania, including vice-rector for academic affairs.
