J. Sams, an American news anchor whose career in television broadcasting spanned more than 50 years, died on June 25, 2026.

Born March 19, 1935, and also known as Billy Jack Sams, he became a familiar figure on Arkansas television through KTHV-TV in Little Rock, where he presented “Today’s THV This Morning,” now known as “THV 11 News This Morning.” Sams co-hosted the program with Alyson Courtney and meteorologist Tom Brannon after earlier stints at KATV Channel 7 from 1964 to 1970 and at KHON-TV in Honolulu, where he served as the main anchor in the 1970s. He returned to Arkansas in 1982, later anchoring both the evening and morning newscasts at KTHV before retiring from the station and from television in the summer of 2009. He was inducted into the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Arkansas Walk of Fame in 2012.
