Born on February 1, 1940, in Braintree, Massachusetts, he attended Braintree High School, graduating in 1959, before going on to Northeastern University for his undergraduate degree. He later earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Yale University and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
Devaney served on the electrical and computer engineering faculty at Northeastern University from 1987 to 2016, and during that time he was named a COE Distinguished Professor.
