
Anna Ritchie, a British archaeologist and historian, died on May 8, 2026, aged 82.
Born on September 28, 1943, she was known for her work at archaeological sites in Orkney and for guidebooks she wrote for the HMSO and Historic Environment Scotland on Scottish history and historical sites. Beginning her career in the late 1960s, she published widely in academic and popular works.
She was also the first female president of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, serving from 1990 to 1993.
