He was one of the founders of Environment-Behavior Studies (EBS) and produced more than 200 academic publications in the field. His research focused on cultural variables, cross-cultural studies, and the development and synthesis of theory, examining questions that connect architecture, human behavior and the environment.
Rapoport’s influential book House Form and Culture explored how culture, human behavior and environmental conditions shape the form of houses. His other books included Human Aspects of Urban Form and Culture, Architecture, and Design. Books from his body of work were translated into French, Spanish, German, Persian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, bringing his scholarship to readers across a wide range of languages.
