Alojz Ihan, a Slovenian immunologist, doctor and poet, died on March 10, 2026, at the age of 64.
Born in Ljubljana on July 23, 1961, he studied at the Medical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana and worked at the university’s Institute for Microbiology and Immunology. He specialized in medical microbiology and immunology, and was also active as a writer, essayist and editor.
Ihan received the Prešeren Foundation Award for his poetry collection Srebrnik in 1987 and won the Jenko Award in 1996.
Alojz Ihan (23 July 1961 – 10 March 2026) was a Slovenian doctor who was a specialist in medical microbiology and immunology. Beside his medical profession he was also a poet, writer, essayist and editor.
