Alain Blondel, a French art dealer and gallerist, died on June 12, 2026, at the age of 86.
Specialising in Art Deco and contemporary art, he studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris beginning in 1959, a course of study that led him to the work of the Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard. In 1964, he co-directed the short film Hectorologie about Guimard, which won the Golden Lion for art documentaries at the Venice Film Festival the following year.
Two years later, he and his sister Françoise opened a gallery devoted to paintings, rugs and furniture from the 1900–1925 period, beginning a career that also earned him the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
