Born in Aiud on December 21, 1938, she trained at the Bucharest Institute of Theatre and Film Arts, graduating in 1959 in the class of actor Alexandru Finți. A familiar presence at the National Theatre in Bucharest, Mărculescu began performing at age eight in Înșir’te mărgărite and later appeared in films including Păcală se întoarce (2006), Diplomatic Siege (1999) and Meurtres par procuration (1995).
She was named an honorary citizen of Bucharest in 2001.
