Born on March 8, 1933, he was educated at New Method College and later studied in the United States before returning to Hong Kong in 1956. He helped his brother establish Tin Tin Daily News and served as its president from 1960 to 1977.
Wai was also a long-time sports commentator for TVB and Cable TV, covering boxing and other sports, and held leadership roles in several sports associations in the 1960s and 1970s.
