Tony Bracegirdle, a British rose breeder and horticulturist, died on December 29, 2025, aged 83.
Born Anthony James Bracegirdle in Bury, Greater Manchester, in April 1942, he began breeding roses in 1974. His floribunda rose won the Torridge Award for Best Amateur Rose in 1983, and he won the Royal National Rose Society Open Championships in 1996.
In 2006, The Guardian described him as having “all the breezy ebullience of Fred Dibnah”.
